Farmhouses Sao and Hornillo

They are located at an altitude of 520 and 750 metres respectively. El Hornillo, the first centre of the municipality's midlands, stands out for the group of cave houses that predominate there in contrast to the traditional dwellings of El Sao, which are the houses with roof terraces. Access to the Hornillo area is via a royal road from El Sao, or by road, going up through the Caideros neighbourhood, in Gáldar.

El Sao and El Hornillo are settlements, remnants of bygone civilisations. Rural centres in a state of near abandonment. The habitat in El Hornillo is in caves drilled into the rocks of steep cliffs that reach up to 100 metres. Their livelihood is agriculture, for which they take advantage of the tiny orographic plateaus that, by means of terraces of ordinary masonry, step up the steep slope and allow them to develop the crops through which they survive.
